He loved to brighten a person’s day with levity and hilarious stories. James did not talk much about the hardships of his time in the military, but all who met him have almost certainly heard tales of his escapades and antics in flying around a three-star Admiral. He proudly served his country in over 350 combat missions. A man of many nicknames, the family would be remiss to omit that "Uncle Grumpy" is also survived by 22 grand nieces and nephews, and two great-grand nieces and nephews.James enlisted in the Unites States Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Hood Howard (Ryan) Aunt Betty Griffin (John) and their sons Shannon and Kevin sisters, Linda Hodge and Kathy Jones (Sid) brother, Clary Hood (Gail) and nieces and nephews: Kelli Kennedy (Smith), Mark Hodge (Dana), Tim Hodge (Megan), Jennifer Sellars, Laurie Cothran, Wesley Hood (Nicole) Greg Jones, and Melissa Interdonato (Todd). Reynolds.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his long-term life partner, Priscilla Chamlee. He was born in Glenn Springs, SC on Februto the late James E.
