It has the 1st Edition and Promo stamps, and cards never have both. Even if it was intended by US Pokemon publisher Wizards of the Coast, fans speculate that the card is still incorrectly stamped. There’s debate in the community on whether this was a mistake or an intended chase card to promote the new set. So imagine the surprise of some lucky fans when they found this allegedly exclusive card in a few 1st Edition booster packs for the Jungle expansion. This Pikachu was a Promo, initially given out as a prize for players in the first American Pokemon League tournament in July of 1999. Pokemon cards stamped with the Black Star Promo logo are (usually) exclusive to specific events, like Pokemon movie releases or game tournaments. However, this 1st Edition ivy background Pikachu is an exception. As a result, Pikachu is commonly featured in many expansions of the trading card series. The electric yellow mouse is the brand’s main mascot and a fan favorite. Those with only a passing familiarity with Pokemon will still undoubtedly recognize Pikachu. Other versions of this card would feature the same artwork but not the same combination of set stamps. A raw example of the rare 1st Edition Ivy Pikachu in excellent condition.
